"In 2019, I got the chance to do my final internship abroad. I always dreamed of going to Africa and making a small difference there. During my search for the perfect internship spot, I came across Why Not Foundation. The small scale and involved atmosphere immediately appealed to me. Together with the foundation I started looking for a school near the office and there I gave sports lessons to the children with disabilities. In addition to giving sports lessons, I was also active as a volunteer for the Why Not foundation in Kenya. I went along on home visits, I saw the therapy days, attended many events and went on school visits to many of our children.

The experiences I had there are unforgettable for me. I could see with my own eyes how involved the foundation is in every child's life. I wanted to continue to contribute in the Netherlands. The opportunity arose to become coordinator of sponsorship reports and I took it with pleasure.
My motto: a small contribution, makes a big difference."

I was born in 1954, and may be treasurer of Why Not Foundation from the beginning of 2016. After selling my technical consulting business, it was time to do something else, and so that became traveling and holding some unpaid board positions.
Why choose the Why Not Foundation? The small scale and direct involvement in improving the living conditions of "our" children in Kenya really appealed to me.
You know what you are doing and together with the Why Not fieldworkers in Kenya you can help not only the children but also the families, that is wonderful!
As treasurer, I use my knowledge and experience to ensure that my fellow directors can do what they do best, which is fundraising and communicating with our fieldworkers."

The first acquaintance with the WhyNot foundation was 9 years ago. At my previous employer SAS Institute in Huizen, the father of one of the founders (Marloes Herber) introduced WhyNot. The company supported a number of actions and made financial contributions, after which the company started supporting other charities.

I kept in touch with WhyNot, which resulted in a collaboration between WhyNot and our children's school: Comenius College in Hilversum. The school entered into a 3-year agreement with WhyNot in 2013, with the theme: Expedition Comenius. Every year, the school organizes an activity week that is dedicated to 'social welfare'. The children can choose from several foundations, and WhyNot was one of them. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

Since 2016, I have been a member of the Advisory Board: a sounding board group of people who, from different perspectives, provide advice to the Board of Directors.

"With a professional interest in fundraising and a personal interest in Africa and development, I joined Why Not several years ago. I am proud to be able to dedicate myself to this beautiful foundation and to make a small difference for a group of people in Kenya.

I greatly enjoy working with the volunteers and board members in the Netherlands, but especially the contact with the fieldworkers Catherine, Matilda, Ann and Connie."

"In early 2014 I came into contact with the Why Not foundation in Kenya. I was immediately inspired when I saw the fieldworkers working so passionately to create opportunities for children with disabilities and to stimulate the parents to take responsibility for their situation. With great pleasure I am looking for new sponsors, donors and enthusiastic volunteers, I enjoy all the activities we organize together and we strive for more and more professionalism. This in close contact with the fieldworkers in Kenya to really make that difference!"
